Meet Our Nutrition Liaisons!
Mallory started her love of the market back in 2012 as a Meet Your Vegetables Intern. After her internship, she continued working with the market , helping with the Mill City Cooks cooking demonstrations. Now, she is excited to be one of our nutrition liaisons, providing practical and simple nutrition information for the market. Mallory received a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and is in her final weeks of a PhD in Nutrition at the University of Minnesota. She is also doing a dietetic internship to become an registered dietitian. As someone who studies nutrition daily, she often sees media headlines, food advertisements, and diet books that make it difficult to know just what constitutes a healthy diet. As such, Mallory’s passion is to help people debunk myths and learn the truth about good nutrition! Mallory’s motto for healthy eating is, “Step up to the plate, and be better for what you ate.” She enjoys exploring new places on bike and on foot, trying new recipes, and engaging in conversation about nutrition and health.
Jillian has been a part of the market since 2011, when she too was a Meet Your Vegetables Intern. She fell in love with the market community and their mission that summer and has been a part of the market ever since. She served as the Mill City Cooks kitchen manager & day staff for three seasons, and is now back to share her love of nutrition with you. Jillian has a Master’s degree in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, and is also a Registered Dietitian. She loves reading complex scientific articles, but even more, she enjoys figuring out how to decipher that information and make it understandable for everyone else. Jillian is passionate about cooking and abolishing the myth that healthy eating is complicated or overwhelming. During the week, Jillian works with kids & nutrition and on weekends works at Mill City Running. She loves to travel, create things, and run loops on the river. Her best day would definitely involve gardening and a cooking adventure.
Moriah’s passion for the market began when she started to volunteer with the Mill City Cooks cooking demonstrations in 2015. Inspired by the local chef’s seasonal creations and the vendor’s high quality and fresh products, Moriah’s support for the market grew. In 2016, she transitioned into the role of kitchen manager & day staff worker and is returning in 2017 to share her love for the market in the same capacity. Moriah has her bachelor’s degree in Food Systems with an emphasis in Nutrition and Sustainability from the University of Minnesota. While her “career path” is a work in progress, she is passionate about working with organizations that guide people towards cultivating an appreciation for planting seeds, nourishing them, watching them grow, and transforming them into tasty, hearty meals. She enjoys working with communities to increase access to locally sourced nutritious foods. Moriah’s favorite kind of day in the Twin Cities would include exploring new sites on foot or bike, purchasing produce from the market and trying new recipes.
