Credit / Debit
We sell credit and debit card tokens at the Information Booth in increments of $5. All vendors accept $5 tokens, and vendors will give you cash as change. SNAP / EBT & Market Bucks
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients can use their EBT cards at the market at our Information Booth. Market staff will give you $1 wooden tokens, and we will match your purchase 3:1 up to $10 with market bucks (read more below). SNAP/EBT tokens never expire, but paper market bucks do expire at the end of each season.
The same rules apply when using your SNAP or EBT card at farmers markets that do at any other merchant. SNAP dollars are not eligible for ready-to-eat/prepared foods or non-food items (art, flowers, soap, etc). SNAP tokens and market bucks are valid for produce, meat, eggs, dairy, breads/bakery items, honey, jam, edible plants and packaged foods intended as take-home groceries. Vendors cannot issue change for SNAP tokens or market bucks.
Spend $10, Get $30 with Market Bucks
Through the Market Bucks program, MCFM is able to match EBT transactions 3:1 up to $10 every day that they shop at the market. For the first $10 charged on your SNAP EBT card, you will be given an additional $20 in Market Bucks for free! Market Bucks can be spent the same way (and are subject to the same restrictions) as SNAP EBT tokens. The Market Bucks program is currently run by Hunger Solutions Minnesota.
If you received a Market Bucks Gift Certificate please bring it to the info booth (green ten located in the center of the market) for market staff to exchange it for market bucks! Please do not give these gift certificates directly to vendors. Learn more about Market Bucks on Hunger Solutions’ website.
Minnesota was the first state to fund a SNAP Incentive Program, offering matching for low-income families and individuals to shop at farmers markets. Click here to read more!
WIC & FMNP
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) checks and vouchers are specifically for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ booths. Ask staff at our Info Booth which farmers accept these and they can send you in the right direction.
