French Nugget Company is owned and operated by Fred and Laurie Golchin. The pair met as college students at the University of Nice, in the south of France, during the early 1980s. There, surrounded by the blue waters of the Mediterranean, the lavender-cloaked fields of the Provence region, and the soaring peaks of the Alps, they experienced the rich culinary culture of artisanal French delicacies.
In 2007, inspired by their time in southern France, the couple created French Nugget and now sell lavender essential oil and mists, herbs de Provence, food-grade lavender as well as fresh and dried lavender bouquets at the Mill City Farmers Market and, starting in 2018, the International Bazaar at the State Fair.
Ever connected to the countryside of the Riviera, Fred and Laurie import their lavender from a small family farm in Provence, France where they maintain a home in Villefranche-sur-Mer, the village pictured on their label.
