Der’s Farm was the first large scale flower producer to join the Mill City Farmers Market. Owner and farmer Der Thao moved to the United States from Thailand in 1989 and started farming with his wife and kids on a small acreage in Rosemount in 1993. Now, after decades in the business, Ders Farm is 17 acres on two plots in Rosemount and Hampton, Minnesota.
In addition to peonies, sunflowers, lilies and other beautiful flowers for home and special events, Der’s Farm also grows fresh vegetables including asparagus, onions, peas, potatoes and green beans. Every Saturday during the outdoor season, you can find Der’s son Jeffrey, with seasonal fresh cut bouquets at the top of the Market near the Guthrie Theater.
“Our farm products are planted by hand and picked by hand to teach others of the hard well done job of a traditional farmer. Each year is different depending on the weather. As farmers we all hope for a good year to be able to bring fresh quality produce and flowers to the market, so our community can buy directly from the farmers and know exactly where their produces and flowers is came from.” -Jeffrey Thao
