Gomen (Cabbage & Carrot Vegetable Dish)


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 large carrots, sliced finely
  • ½ onion, diced
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric
  • ½ can tomato sauce (8 ounces)
  • ½ small cabbage, shredded
  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder (or 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced)
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 1 Serrano pepper cut in half or sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Add oil to a medium pan on medium heat.
  2. Add onions and carrots, sauté until soft.
  3. Add turmeric, stir.
  4. Add ½ can of tomato sauce, stir.
  5. Add shredded cabbage and cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes.
  6. Add ginger and garlic. Stir. Cook 2 minutes on medium heat.
  7. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  8. Add water, as needed, for desired amount of sauce.
  9. Cover as the steam cooks cabbage for about 3 minutes on low heat.
  10. Turn heat off. Enjoy!!!
