Heritage Breads Festival

It is time again to honor our namesake and beautiful, historic locale with our annual Bread Festival. Join us this Saturday for mini lectures about heritage grains, sourdough starters, and more bread tips from renowned local bakers. Plus, enter your own loaf in our tasting to share the story of bread in your life.  

Bread Baking Showcase

Have a trusted family sourdough recipe or new and exciting quickbread to share with the community? Bring a loaf or two to Bread Festival! Home bakers will be showing off their skills all morning with a community tasting! To enter the showcase please arrive in the kitchen demonstration area at or before 9 a.m. with one or two loaves to sample to the public. This year we are especially excited to taste breads with a family story or cultural significance. Click here to see the breads from previous Bread Festivals. Novices and experts are welcome!  You can download your Bread Showcase Entry Form here or pick one up at the market! Apples, arugula, beets, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, collards, green onions, herbs, kale, kohlrabi, lavender, microgreens, mushrooms, mustard greens, parsnips, radicchio, radishes, oregano, onions, peppers (hot and sweet), potatoes, salad mix, shallots, sorrel, spinach, Swiss chard, thyme, winter squash, and so much more!

Mill City Cooks

10:00-12PM Join Market Chef Heather Hartman and renowned local bakers for a series of bread talks in our FREE cooking demonstration, Mill City Cooks!


9:30 AM –Home Bakers drop off breads in the Mill City Cooks kitchen cafe.
9:30 – 10:30 AM – Share and listen to home bakers’ stories about bread.
10:30 – 11:30 AM Bread Baking Demonstrations:

Kids' Activity

Power of Produce–PoP Club!- A seasonal vegetable tasting club for kids ages 5-12. Collect punches on trading cards and receive a $2 token to spend on produce at the market for tasting this Saturday’s vegetable! This season PoP will be at the market’s green Information Booth in the center of the market on the Chicago Mall.

Live Music

11AM – 1PM MCFM welcomes Jack Klatt, playing country and folk music in the music tent located near the Guthrie stairs.

Art Market

This Saturday’s featured local artists include: Barn Swallow Garden, Fringe & Fettle Ceramics, Aprilierre, Stirsby, Birchberry Native Arts and Food, ArtAndes, and Sally Fritz Clothing. Find them in the train shed!
