Urban Roots is a St. Paul based nonprofit organization with the mission to build vibrant and healthy communities through food, conservation, and youth development. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, Urban Roots offers paid internships to youth from the East side of St. Paul in the areas of urban agriculture, conservation and nutrition. The internships give economically disadvantaged youth a place to learn through hands-on activities and education, to contribute to their community, and to navigate life in a meaningful way. The youth interns help grow and maintain 6 gardens, in which they practice 100% organic and sustainable growing methods for a wide variety of herbs and vegetables.
